Design. Alessandro Ciffo is a ‘modern alchemist,’ exploring the potentialities of silicone, his one and only medium, to create unique pieces at the crossroads between art and design. To celebrate 25 years of experimentation with such humble material, he presented the Tavolo di P. [Table of P.] collection and room installation at the renowned Rossana Orlandi Gallery in Milan.

The exhibition revolves around a table on which 24 vases made of golden silicone pay homage to the most significant moments of Ciffo’s artistic journey. A large chandelier hangs above the table, while a sideboard and shelves-canvas provide a glistening backdrop.
“Silicone has given me a universal language through which I can express myself. ‘Tavolo di P.’ tells the story of my creative journey, where I’ve encountered many wonderful people to whom I am profoundly grateful.” Alessandro Ciffo told Archipanic. “P. is a symbolic tribute to my patrons: the collectors who believed in my vision. Their support has allowed me to explore creative paths that haven’t always aligned with market demands.”

Ciffo chose a gold hue to represent his maturity and the value acquired through experience. “Gold is a symbol of light and transformation. It celebrates the continuous dialogue between past and present, creativity, and remembrance.”
We asked him to pick four pieces that highlight his creative journey. “The first pick is not an object but a goal I achieved thanks to the partnership with Rossana Orlandi.” The gallerist has always been on the front line for sustainable design and has teamed up with the artist to embrace responsibility. “We devised a technique to upcycle all production waste and obtain a regenerated silicone that I used for the La Bursch collection.”
Other notable highlights selected by Ciffo include the XXI vase, made in 2009, which exemplifies this material’s full potential and vitality. “These vessels are my first completely handcrafted silicone piece. Back then, I used to describe silicone as a material ‘so maleficent and malodorous – yet ideal for crafting something beautiful.’”
“Through the Tipico collection, I came to appreciate the significance of gesture and repetition. This series also provided me with financial support to further explore silicone. The Hyperbolic Armchair encapsulates my first ten years of research.”
