Design, Technology. Unveiled as a prototype at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Trinity is an urban three-wheel EV that looks like it rolled straight out of a near-future sketchbook. Its slim body and arched roofline mix the agility of a motorbike with the reassuring stability of a car, thanks to a clever self-balancing system. This is not an autonomous vehicle in the sci-fi sense, but a carefully choreographed collaboration between humans, vehicles and AI. “Brains on wheels,” as Will.i.am neatly sums it up.

At the heart of Trinity sits a smart, conversational, AI-powered operator designed to “understand your goals and handle the mental load while you drive.” It can send messages, hunt down parking near your destination, and even remix the playlist in real time to match your speed. Cameras, sensors and the interface work together so the AI can literally ‘see’ the city — cars, bikes, pedestrians, traffic lights, storefronts and signs — smoothing out the ride and keeping things safely on track.

To make all that intelligence hum, Will.i.am teamed up with chipmaker Nvidia, whose graphics processing unit powers the AI’s visual and computational muscle. The design and build were entrusted to Ryan Friedlinghaus of Southern California’s cult West Coast Customs, while DEKA Research & Development brought its deep know-how in self-balancing systems and robotics to the party.

Beyond the tech specs and futuristic hardware, Trinity also reads as a social design experiment. Will.i.am plans to manufacture the microcar in Boyle Heights, the working-class Los Angeles neighbourhood where he grew up, extending a long-standing commitment to community-focused technology initiatives through his i.am Angel Foundation.

On the performance side, Trinity doesn’t shy away from bold numbers. The microcar is engineered for an estimated range of 150 miles, a top speed of 120 miles per hour, and motorbike-like acceleration, hitting 0–60 miles per hour in under two seconds. With a projected price of around $30,000, and first deliveries pencilled in for August 2027 pending a successful crowdfunding campaign, this three-wheeled EV makes a compelling case for a smarter, slightly geekier kind of urban mobility.
