Design Shangai 2020 – After being rescheduled twice early this year due to the impact of the coronavirus, the 7th edition of the city’s celebration of design finally goes on show until November 29. Over 400 brands join the event staged at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Center – a new exhibition space 40% bigger than the previous one.

Although we have experienced unprecedented circumstantial challenges and postponement, we are now fully prepared and ready to go. Installations, exhibitions and a rich programme of talks tops the fair show featuring booths by leading Chinese brands such as HOUSE OF WANG, SEEDDESIGN, 8 Hours and WUU. Among the international participations Italian, British ands Nordic companies stand out. On display installations by Tom Dixon, Federicia, Iittala, Visionnaire and Zanotta.

Design Shanghai 2020 features also two new sections: Objects & Accessories and Talents, in addition to Contemporary Design, Classic & Luxury, Kitchen & Bathroom, Workplace, New Materials and Applications.

Over the past few years, Chinese brands and designers have gained recognition abroad. “As the largest industry events, Design Shanghai continues to support the domestic design community by creating a platform for exchange and exposure.”

HOUSE of WANG, a lifestyle boutique which recently opened in Beijing, brings a selection of works by international designers ranging from Sé Collection, Nada Debs, Bethan Gray and Lee Broom.

Mario Tsai Studio makes his Design Shanghai debut with the Colosseum light and music installation featuring a series of tubular lamps that evoke the pillars of the Colosseum In Rome. Ugan Concept releases the 2020 Saddle collection encompassing a chair, a table, a lamp, a shelf and flooring products. UFOU brings its iconic adjustable desks and other functional products for home office. Lighting brand LEEDARSON integrates the oriental humanistic spirit into contemporary design and will showcase some new poetic and elegant products.

Yang Design’s rug hand-tufted designs for Taiping Carpets evoke science and physics. Blending inspirations from different cultures, RK Furniture displays handmade rugs and thoughtfully selected furniture. Interested in exploring the relations between art, mathematics and design, Xiaoxi Shi, founder of 2-LA Design, brings the Knot Table, Sansui Aroma and a few other “functional artistic pieces”.

At the fair entrance, Design Shanghai 2020 headline partner AUDI welcomes visitors with the Window into the Future installation presenting its Audi Q4 e-tron concept electric vehicle. The Silk Road Hotel by Baptiste Bohu celebrates the coming together of Asian and European cultures.
