Design. From laid-back lounging to playful daydreaming, swings and hammocks are having a serious design moment. No longer just beachside essentials or backyard afterthoughts, today’s suspended seating is as much about sculptural beauty as it is about slowing down. We’ve gathered six design hammocks that mix craftsmanship, comfort, and a good dose of whimsy—imagined to help you sway through life with style.

Let’s start with Wheel, the elegant swing chair by South African Studio Stirling for Couture Outdoor. More than just a pretty seat, this piece is all about natural inspiration—from leaf veins and dragonfly wings to cracked earth textures. Handmade from strong steel and finished in a soft-to-the-touch Ferrograin Black coating, it’s as comfy as it is poetic. Studio Stirling’s work blends durability with a love for hanging daybeds and airy alcoves that let you float with ease.
Luxury meets leisure with Swing Chair by Patricia Urquiola, part of Louis Vuitton’s Objets Nomades collection. Inspired by the structure of a handbag, it’s crafted from leather-covered metal handles that support a woven mesh seat. Available in rich chocolate tones with yellow leather accents, or soft beiges and natural hues. Both are finished with gold-plated details—because why not swing in style?
For something with a bit of an edge (and surf-worthy geometry), there’s Wave, a striking hammock by Swedish designers Erik Nyberg and Gustav Störm for Belgian luxury brand Royal Botania. Its sleek stainless steel frame mimics a curling wave, offering a sturdy yet ethereal spot to recline and do, well, absolutely nothing. According to the designers: “Leave your troubles behind and be overwhelmed by a wave of wellness, hovering halfway between heaven and earth, while simply doing nothing.”
Trinity Hammocks’ Infinity model is all about connection—literally. Made of interlinked metal circles, it was created by Gilbert Tourville to turn hammock lounging into a social experience. Perfect for adventurers who want to wind down and share a story or two at the end of the day. “Whether you’ve been hiking, climbing, mountain biking or out on the water, quite often the most enjoyable part of the day is kicking back and relaxing at the end of it all.”
Then there is the ZOME Caged Hanging Hammock by KODAMA™, a hybrid between a couch, a birdcage, a bed, and a hammock. The cozy cocoon-meets-couch hangs from a single point, allowing a gentle, fluid motion that’s more meditative than your average swing. Inspired by natural geometry and dynamic movement, these hanging pods can even be outfitted with sun shades and mosquito nets for all-season chill time.
And finally, we have Infiniswing, an interactive art piece by NYC-based jewelry designer Sharón Chandally Pedrini. Unveiled at Burning Man, it’s part swing, part seesaw, and all about connection. Shaped like a Möbius strip, it encourages two people to play, swing, and communicate in sync—a poetic reminder to embrace spontaneity and rediscover the joy of moving together.
