Fun Connection creates a Gen-Z fun park in Shanghai

Architecture–Younger generations value conviviality and truly experiences shared with friends more than material possessions. From here, Fun Connection has created the XBOX Family Sports Center in Shanghai, a 3,000 sqm Gen-Z fun park with an industrial style, boldly challenging traditional architectural aesthetics.

Developed by Ningnuo Investment, the XBOX Family Sports Center is a 100% playful environment for unique experiences. “From a bird’s-eye view, the well-organized functional zones operate like a futuristic factory, autonomously and efficiently,” Fun Connection told Archipanic.

An eye-catching semicircular reception desk at the entrance draws the attention of passersby with neatly arranged silver inflatable cushions. Once inside, guests are welcomed by an 11-m high X-slide at the centre of the space. Like an industrial sculpture, it is paired with eight parallel slides and over 20m-long transparent tunnels providing a 720° aerial view.

Blue, silver and orange are the predominant hues, nodding to Space Age style. The dramatic stainless steel slide and the spiralling transparent tunnels recall factory pipelines. Fun Connection also used exposed steel frames and hardware to create a groundbreaking, high-tech, futuristic vision.

“The spatial layout, akin to a continuous motion program, uses curves, diagonal lines and arcs to guide the sight and movement, ensuring the fluidity and continuity of the vision.”

Visitors can also fly across the room with a 10-meter-high and 36-meter-long super zip line. On the side of the main slides are trampolines and two competitive climbing walls, one for self-challenging and the other for fun group gatherings.

The Gen-Z fun park also comprises wobbling stepping boards to test balance and suspended walkways requiring firm steps. The sky bridge demands calm and judgment, while the climbing net challenges strength and patience. High-speed gliding and panoramic views boost for an adrenaline-surging experience.

The first floor also features wobble bridges and foam pits with a basketball and street culture style. The second floor boasts high-altitude rope nets, sky flying and stepping games. Bright yellow and silver hues create a strikingly dynamic source of vitality.

“Every level, like an elaborately designed maze segment, is related to one another, attracting all the players and making it hard to stop once started,” comments Fun Connection.

The XBOX Family Sports Center also features socialising and sharing spaces where guests can enjoy quality time with family and friends. A resting area, a trendy restaurant and personalised birthday party rooms offer a comfortable place for gatherings, chatting and sharing unique moments.
