Design – Design Editeurs worship functionality and contemporary aesthetics like industrial design companies but without their mass production figures and processes. Their highly ‘curated’ collections and limited editions are crafted with refined sustainable materials by artisans and makers, supporting local heritage. Archipanic editor-in-chief Enrico Zilli has selected ten collections by French design labels launching new collections at Maison & Objet fair.

DCW Editions creates “objects whose roots are in the past, whose use is in the present and whose vision is for the future.” Armed with his astronomer’s telescope, Japanese designer Yuji Okitsu observed celestial bodies’ movements and transformed them into Focus, a lighting design collection floating in a weightless world. What if planets were soap bubbles that have remained intact as they travel through time?

Hartô

Hartô is a Lyon-based design editor with a mission: to give talented designers the opportunity to see their projects emerge and become real. Designed by Pauline and Luis, the new Carmen lamp comes with a rotating textile pleated skirt.

La Manufacture is a brand where design and fashion collide. A brand where a certain je ne sais quoi of French allure meets the best Italian craftsmanship thanks to world-renowned international designers. The Champignon pouf by Swedish studio Front Design is designed to look as if it is sprouting from the ground offering its cap for sitting and resting.

Maison Matisse

Maison Matisse, the design brand founded by the family of the painter Henri Matisse, has inaugurated its first Paris flagship store in the heart of the Rive Gauche. Each of the brand’s collections is inspired by the universe of the iconic painter, reinterpreted by contemporary designers and produced by renowned artisans with “an understated alternation of natural and artisanal.”

Théoréme Editions

Théorème Editions teams up with contemporary designers and skilled craftsmen to create objects animated by a form of poetry, whether in their design, color, or materiality. In Paris, they present the Achille Chair, hand-sculpted foam on a wooden structure, upholstered with a chiné fabric. Its comfortable curves contrast with the strict aluminum cube it sits on.

Serax

Serax’s new collections are born in collaboration with international designers and are manufactured by skilled craftsmen. This year, José Lévy created the Fontainebleau outdoor series initially developed for his house. The collection comprises a sofa, a chair, a stool, a round table, a daybed and a side table. All are considered small architectural compositions meeting the different functions of a living room in a garden: rest, eat, work and play.

Forestier

Paris-based ‘editeur’ Forestier offers “passionately illuminated emotions,” playing with wire and transparency and favouring craftsmanship. Jette Scheib created the Carrie collection recalling the intimate light of Chinese lanterns. “The suspended lamps collect, carry and keep the light like a perfume bottle that preciously preserves its fragrance.”

Popus Editions

Popus Editions has a vibrant DNA inspired by ‘pop’ culture. Based in Megève in the French Alps, the ‘design editeur’ clashes materials and patterns to create furniture with a warm, flavourful feeling. The new Veronica armchair comes in pop colours, rounded shapes and a cheerful attitude.

“We are auteurs & éditeurs. We dare to be bold, innovate, and act as explorers in creating furnishing fabrics and wallcoverings.” Say at Élitis. Merida, the 100% natural fiber ‘mural’ collection, reveals raffia in an eco-friendly contemporary universe through geometric compositions assembled by hand, piece-by-piece.

Have you ever checked the label on the iconic chairs outside any Paris bistro? You might read Maison Drucker. The historic label launched the Rattan Collection by Belgian architect François Goffinet. The new braiding highlights lightness and simplicity. Cushions, hung by fabric ties, all in Sunbrella, are available in Canvas, Heritage Green and Blue Storm hues.
