Design – After being postponed several times, NOMAD CIRCLE, the first traveling showcase for collectible design and contemporary art, is back to Chesa Planta, an exquisite Alpine residence in Switzerland’s Engadin mountains. On show a selection of international galleries, special projects and curated art pieces from all over the world.

From Rio de Janeiro, Mercado Moderno showcases the works of Ines Schertel, one of the most solid names of contemporary Brazilian production. The artist revitalizes ancient carpet-making techniques from nomadic tribes in China, Iran, and Afghanistan to create contemporary handcrafted rugs and furniture.

Iwan Maktabi, a leading Beirut-based carpet gallery, brings a collective project featuring three women designers from Lebanon. The IT FELT LIKE A DREAM rug and wall draping by Rumi Dalle was created through a personal journey of self-discovery. STRATA by Roula Salamoun tells the story of the multilayered urbanscapes of Katmandu. Hala Matta created a collection of ceramic vessels and playful totems inspired by Nature and the free spirit rooted into craftsmanship DNA.

Non-profit cultural organization Zuecca Projects and curator Christopher Taylor bring to NOMAD St. Moritz 2021 wrapped furniture by the late artist Christo. All sales contributed to the realization of the artist’s final project L’Arc de Triomphe, Wrapped, a temporary artwork for Paris due to open in September 2021.

Galleria Rossella Colombari from Milan celebrates its 40th anniversary and mountain leisure from the 1950s with the Alpine Wunderkammer exhibition, inspired by the simplicity of design and essential shapes, characterized by high-quality craftsmanship and rationalist influences, typical of the period. On show are pieces from design icons such as Mario Gottardi, Carlo Hauner and Ignazio Gardella.

New York and Brussels gallery C L E A R I N G debuts at NOMAD CIRCLE, presenting the astonishing collection of pieces by Daniel Dewar and Grégory Gicquel. The French-British duo created a series of furniture, including upholstered seatings as well an oak drawer and a cabinet dressed with sculpted pigs.

YALI Glass, which represents a new generation of master glassblowers, has teamed with jewelry designer Antonia Miletto to create a uniquely Venetian collaboration. Exquisite vases encapsulate the secrets of craftsmanships embracing each other.

Loro Piana presented the Palm Duet Chaise Longue, a never-seen-before piece designed by Raphael Navot. The soft and hyper-tactile seat was designed to welcome its guest with a sinuous and reassuring embrace. The pure lines were inspired by the palm of a handcrafting a spiraling, seamless shape.

Design Editions explores the relationship between craftsmanship, modern machining and materiality to create a unique portfolio of vertical surface designs for use in residential, office and hospitality interiors. At NOMAD St. Moritz 2021, the Milan-based design brand reimagines materiality with limited edition pieces by Keiji Takeuchi, Mikal Harrsen and Studio Charlie.

The NOMAD YESMAD exhibition, curated by New York-based artist, collector, curator, writer, lecturer and dealer Kenny Schachter, features a selection of artworks from the local Engadin Valley’s finest contemporary art galleries, including works exploring the human condition by French artist Louise Bourgeois from Hauser & Wirth, St.Moritz, Bethan Huws’ graphic read-made talking canvas from Galerie Tschudi, Zuos.

Responding to the continuing exceptional circumstances of this year, NOMAD has joined forces with world-leading auction house CHRISTIE’S in order to offer to all a both digital and physical experience. The online exhibition is open until July 18, dates for a physical event at Christie’s in London will be announced shortly.
