Design – We selected 10 bathroom design launches on show at ISH 2021, the leading bathroom design fair which went all virtual due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and Milano Design City, the hybrid design event anticipating Milan Design Week, the world’s most important design show which has been postponed to September.

A monochromatic ‘throne’ inspired by ancient Greek architecture

French startup firm Trone presented Callipyge, a collection of monochromatic toilet bowls that nod to ancient Greece, its colors and its finishes. The tongue-in-cheek Callipyge name comes from the Greek word kállos, “beautiful” in Greek, and pugé, “buttocks.” The collection is also and above all born from a responsible commitment. Indeed, it is entirely produced in the EU: “our Callipyge toilets are made in France and Italy. And we are proud of our short supply chain.”
Wood and resin washbasins with a minimal carbon footprint

Finnish startup Woodio launched the Core and Northern Elements collections of washbasins manufactured from the company’s waterproof, durable and impact-resistant Woodio® material, an innovative combination of solid wood and resin. “Our washbasins work the same way as any other bathroom sink. We manufacture all our products at our own factory in Helsinki, Finland, with a minimal carbon footprint. The carbon footprint of the Woodio basin is 80% smaller compared to similar size a ceramic basin.” Explain at Woodio.
Responsible radiators

Antrax launches the Teso radiator made of 100% recyclable extruded aluminium by Dante O. Benini and Luca Gonzo. With a width of 25 cm and a height of 150, 170 or 200 cm, the smooth plate is enhanced by the insertion of a thin circular metal arm, on which it is possible to hang towels or arrange bathrobes. The element comes in chrome finish, tone-on-tone or in contrast with the heating body, and in over 200 shades. It can be installed both horizontally and vertically.

Duravit launches White Tulip, the first complete bathroom collection entirely designed by Philippe Starck. From free-standing bathtubs, washbasins and furniture, toilets and bidets, to connected heating mirrors and a complete collection of faucets, the delicate and elegant form of all components within the series echoes the organic silhouette of a tulip in bloom with their delicate outward sloping edge, exuding a sculptural and affectionate character. “White Tulip is a very sophisticated collection with a strong sense of ergonomics, but it is above all delicate and affectionate, which makes all the difference.” Explains the designer.
The velvety pitch-black finish

Sintered stone manufacturer Lapitec has launches Nero Assoluto Velluto, a pitch-black tactile finish with a velvety feel, perfect for bathroom wall coverings, flooring or furniture tops. The dark tones with an effect similar to natural stone allow recreating the enveloping feeling of a spa, with all the benefits that bring in terms of relaxation and well-being.

Dornbracht presents MEM, a luxury bathroom faucet with a dashing minimal design. Reminiscent of Spring, one of the oldest and purest water sources, the intentionally conservative design complements the ambiance of various bathroom architectures with ease. “Organic water flow and a design reduced to the essentials are defining characteristics of MEM,” explain at Dornbracht.
‘Misfits’ bathroom furniture

At the Together Apartment exhibition and temp-showroom in Milan, Diesel Living has presented Misfits, a new bathroom concept developed in collaboration with Italian leading furniture company Scavolini. The Misfits collection is an all-inclusive piece of furniture, with a cabinet reimagined with statement-making patterned glass doors and a ring-shaped sink or a metal cart topped with a robust sink.
German hygge in the bathroom…

Teresa Meister has created a bathroom total look for German brand Burgbad combining traditional craftsmanship with modern expectations to create a grounded, cozy feeling in the bathroom. Furniture in honey-hued wood dialogue with ceramic washbasins, a mix of oak, veneer and wickerwork inserts, cabinets and LED-illuminated mirrors. The collection also comprises a basket and a stool with built-in storage.
Compact and essential design

Ceramica Cielo presents Narciso Mini, the freestanding washbasin designed by Andrea Parisio and Giuseppe Pezzano. With its small size and simple aesthetic lines, the furniture offers a compact solution that fits into small spaces without sacrificing practicality. The main element is always the ceramic, available in a rich matt colour palette or glossy nuances. Narciso, the steel structure with a light yet rigorous design, is available in Matt Black, Brushed Bronze or Cement finishes and can be completed with a side towel rail.
New deco and vintage cars-inspired design taps

Marco Pisati has created Foil, Cristina Rubinetterie‘s brand-new bathroom taps collection, “inspired by the aerodynamic, elegant lines of the 1930s streamlining,” as well as from car design from the 50s. The series stands out for its softness and minimal design, highlighting the company’s know-how and Made in Italy.
