In this profoundly challenging moment, without precedent in recent times, there is an urgent need to begin the reconstruction of collaborative relationships beyond the national borders that have constrained us for so many months. The members of this group see this special edition as an opportunity to build an even more engaging, dynamic, sustainable, and inclusive Fuorisalone which will offer new and much-needed opportunities to companies in the sector.”

We have been waiting for too long; the design void has been filled only partially by digital initiatives so far and must be filled up with caution and courage.” Says Gisella Borioli, CEO & founder of Superstudio Group. “Caution in following the pandemic wave with all the necessary precautions, courage in deciding to break the crystal roof that kept us stuck; courage in daring a new Fuorisalone edition that will be very unique for sure.”

We all like playing virtual, and for months we’ve had no choice, but we also know there’s no substitute for the real thing.” Add Joseph Grima and Valentina Ciuffi, founders of Alcova, which will take over the former military hospital of Inganni (pictured top) in the west of the city.

‘We are what we design’ is the theme of the Isola Design Festival that has kicked off these days with a competition and virtual events and will culminate in September. “The festival is the natural evolution of a project that was born as an event and wants at all costs to have again in the events one of its strengths: during the year through the new digital tools, but also in direct contact with professionals and design lovers during Europe’s main Design Weeks.” Says Gabriele Cavallaro, Founder of Isola Design District.
