Design. Acclaimed ceramicist and designer Lisa Larson was one of the first in Sweden to embrace the philosophy of yoga when it arrived in the 1970s. “It’s hard to put into words. It’s about how the body moves naturally. You can be stressed and exhausted, and suddenly you set all your worries aside, lie still, and breathe slowly,” explained Lisa Larson. “Yoga kept me grounded.”

In 1982, she created figurines embodying the essence of yoga to memorise poses and remind herself to dedicate time to practising them. Last year, the designer teamed up with Design House Stockholm to create four new unglazed sculptures that capture the interplay between body and soul in a deeply personal tribute to yoga’s power to bring strength, inner stillness, and peace.
“We fell in love with them the moment we saw them in her studio,” says Anders Färdig, founder of Design House Stockholm. “They are an expression of true emotional functionality – celebrating the inner balance and strength of the human body as an expression of mental well-being. We hope these sculptures bring that same sense of harmony and serve as an antidote in our turbulent world.”
The new Yoga collection explores the interplay of light and shadow. These figurines represent a distinct shift from Lisa Larson’s traditional decorative pieces. Their stylised forms are practical and uncomplicated, free from aesthetic biases. The robust, rounded human figures starkly contrast with the dynamic tensile forces in an exercise.

Grounded on their little woven bamboo mats, the Yoga sculptures serve as gentle reminders. Like a clock that indicates time or an armchair that provides comfort, they connect with our inner selves and encourage us to seek inner balance.
