DESIGN BOX – The playful Pic-a-stic lamp by the Ingo Maurer brand consists of a set of 50 lacquered wooden rods and a rubber ring that fixes the rods in the air. Designer Andreas Walther says: “I worked for stop-motion animation and film props for a long time. Pic-a-stic is stop-motion: I wanted to capture that moment of the play when you throw the Mikado sticks, and they fall apart.”

Pic-a-stic is available in two versions: one made of black and white sticks plus two red sticks and a colourful version with blue, red, and orange sticks. The hanging lamp leaves room for free design, and the owner becomes a co-designer. The elements ‘poetry, playfulness or humour, and technology’ are often associated with Ingo Maurer luminaires. Pic-a-Stic continues tunes with this tone of voice and language.
The design marks the return of the Ingo Maurer GMbH to Milan Design Week after the founder and ‘poet of light’ Ingo Maurer passed away in 2019. The Munich-based brand has been acquired by the Italian design company Foscarini in 2021.
