Shanghai 2017 -Until March 11, international and Chinese design influencers meet up at Design Shanghai, With over 400 brands and 50.000 expected visitors, the more mature fair takes place at the city’s Exhibition Center in West Nanjing Road close to the French Concession. The central pavilion hosts some of the top international furniture brands like Moroso, Magis, Hay and Vitra but also prominent Chinese design brands, galleries and designers such as Beyond Object, WUU and Frank Chou.

In the Xintiandi creative and shopping district a design festival welcomes visitors with 18 interactive installations until March 18. “The Festival’s theme is “In Future”, putting emphasis on providing an interactive experience and giving visitors a sense of how design can break new ground.” Says the Festival curator. >>>Here our top 10 exhibition in town.

An ethereal, almost suspended environment welcomes guests to discover nature-inspired designs. Delicate nets recalling leaves and plants patterns wrap the room while weaved nest-looking lights seem to float from above.

Neat industrial-chic is the imprint of Frank Chou‘s brand new design collection that features a metal and fabric chair, an essential side table and a single sofa with slender and smooth design. Sharp metal contours disguise a more laid-back softness.

Pink jade inspires precious furniture designs

Innovative Shanghai-based design duo Studio MVW took inspiration from natural forms and materials for the new Jinshi collection that celebrates the wonders of pink jade. The collection comprises a console, a side table and lightings. Streamlined curves in dusky, rose gold material palette define a delicate and essentian style.
ZAHA HADID DESIGN
The pioneering vision of the late architect on show.

Fluid lines and subtle, organic geometries. Iconic designs like the liquid glacial table and stools developed in collaboration with David Gill Gallery are on display at the exhibition Zaha Hadid Edition in the Collectible hall. The Field of Towers chess set and other new products of the by late architect’s company are on show in the fair’s Contemporary Halls.

7 Chinese designers blend new technologies with craftsmanship.

At the Lakeville Gallery, the “New Eastern Making” conceptual exhibtion by ZIZAOSHE features seven contemporary artists and designers that interpret recycling and deconstruction in the creative process. “This exhibition opposes to the low cost Made-in-China products that invade the market and gives prove of the great potentialities of new Chinese design.” Says the curator.
DRAGON TREE
A videomaopping green installation celebrating international design.

From 5.30 pm to 1 am, the verdant foliage of a Xintiandi tree will be animated with 3D mapping projections. Each individual image is carefully rendered to create a 3D effect-by using two 12,000-lumen high-resolution laser projectors. The design of dragon-tree is comprised of 14 products from international leading brands such as Cassina, Louis Poulsen and Vitra.
PLUG & HUG
A responsive installation demanding physical closure.

Plug & Hug is a multi-sensory lighting installation that invites guests to get up close and personal. Each giant bubble can be hugged, causing it to glow gently. The more love you give them, the brighter they glow.
