At Stockholm Furniture Fair, Finnish design company Artek launches Kaari collection by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec. The French studio developed an minimal wood and metal series featuring squared and rounded tables, desks and shelves systems.
Bent steel bands and vertical supports hold a variety of table-tops and shelves. This minimal interplay defines a surprisingly light appearance and creates a distinctive linear silhouette.
Kaari collection by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec was born as a design task: to develop a practical and unique table design for a company renown for the simplicity of its furniture systems.
Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec say: “Whilst chairs show a great deal of character that comes in countless forms of expression, tables are static and simple architectural elements. While there have been hundreds of memorable chairs, only a few tables have made design history. Is a table such a simple entity?”.
The Kaari collection collection takes inspiration by Artek style without making explicit reference to historic products of the Finnish company. When several tables and shelves are present in the same room, their silhouettes have a rhythmic effect, making the otherwise static world of tables seem to vibrate.
