Architecture lovers might know Tel Aviv’s White City. The UNESCO world heritage site hosting over 4.000 buildings built in the first half of the XX century is celebrated by the Bauhaus Center Tel Aviv, a true meeting point that explores the architectural heritage of the city. Until the 2nd of may the Bauhaus Center Tel Aviv offers an architectural detour outside Jerusalem Old City perimeters. Curator Ulrich Knufinke says “Is Jerusalem a city of modern architecture? It is a city thousands of years old, the spiritual center of the three monotheistic religions that showcases world history… but also a place of remarkable buildings”.

The search for Jerusalem’s modernity and its specific architectural characteristics spans between the traditional, Art Deco, Bauhaus and the International Style. The Jerusalem: Bauhaus exhibition and its catalogue are a rare expedition through the Israeli capital hidden paths originated between the years 1920 and 1948.

Bauhaus Center Tel Aviv was established in 2000 by Dr. Asher Ben-Shmuel, Shlomit Gross and Dr. Micha Gross. Its goal is to expand public recognition of the “White City” as a unique architectural and cultural site. To achieve this, the center holds a gallery with a permanent collection and changing exhibitions, conducts tours of the city and is a publishing dedicated to the subject.

The center cooperates with the Israeli Committee for UNESCO and the municipality of Tel Aviv-Yafo as well as with various institutions, museums and galleries.
