Interior Design–Natalie Dubrovska has created STAN, a yoga and barre studio in central Kyiv for people identifying as women. The Ukrainian word STAN means physical posture or state, as a feeling of yourself. “It is not just a studio; it is a sanctuary for self-expression and holistic well-being.” Explain Natalie Dubrovska, founder of Dubrovska Studio.

The interior design encapsulates the spirit of feminine strength, elegance, and individuality, inviting guests to embark on a transformative journey. The 120 sqm studio unfolds seamlessly, with soft curtains defining different spaces from the reception area to the core training room, as well as the changing rooms and the showers.

“When we initiated the project, there was virtually nothing available due to wartime conditions,” adds Dubrovska. “We literally pieced the project together from leftovers we found around Kyiv.” Despite these challenges and frequent electricity blackouts, all elements were crafted based on designer drawings, starting from the sofa serving as a centrepiece for the reception area.

Here, small tables were crafted from stone leftovers carefully sourced in warehouses. A mirror cut into a rock base creates an illusion of magic and special charm. The reception desk was cast in concrete, blending with the existing gray micro cement on the floor. It features a crushed surface on its upper part; rough edges contrast with the soft surroundings.

Venturing further into the studio, another turn from the curtain corridor reveals the heart of STAN – the spacious room where classes come to life. This versatile space, accommodating up to 15 people, boasts a flexible lighting setup and mirror walls, creating an environment where the magic of each training session unfolds.

Faced with the absence of a minimalistic and soft locker solution, the designers crafted their own, complete with bespoke numbers and key tags. The showers, covered in tiny mosaic tiles, took inspiration from the modernist aesthetics of public bathrooms.
