Interior Design–Located on a street adjacent to Paseo de García in Barcelona, the Amiko Gelato ice cream shop and parlour “is not just a place for a delicious experience, but a truly sensory experience that will transport you to a parallel universe, where vibrant colours, surreal shapes, and human warmth merge in an explosion of creativity.” Explain Ana Milena Hernández Palacios and Christophe Penasse, the duo behind the Valencia-based studio Masquespacio.

Sinuous curves reminiscent of Miami Beach’s iconic buildings combine with straight, modern lines, creating a bold and juicy contrast. Art Deco’s vibrant colours have been reinterpreted with a soft pastel palette contrasting with darker earthy tones ranging from dark green to pink salmon. “We wished to provide a sense of freshness and lightness,” explained the designers.
Exuberant tropical vegetation takes over the space, creating a tropical oasis in the heart of Barcelona. Large plants throughout the corners thrive in a vibrant dialogue with harder materials such as ceramics and metal.
Ice cream inspired Masquespacio to create a fun, magical environment. Organic shapes, soft-touch materials and sculptures inspired by gelato are integrated into the furniture and decoration, creating a playful and surprising atmosphere.
Amiko Gelato is a space designed to stimulate all the senses. Lighting plays a key role in creating different atmospheres throughout the day. Carefully selected music accompanies the customer on their experience, while the aromas of ice cream and plants create an enveloping atmosphere.
Last but not least, the Spanish design studio also designed a range of coffee cups for the venue to complete the experience.
