Design – For the ICFU initiative, Marcin Rusak Studio and over 40 designers, including Egg Collective, Formafantasma, Faye Toogood, Bethan Laura Wood, Martino Gamper and Studio Drift donated pieces to be auctioned until March 31st on @marcinrusak Instagram profile. Revenues will go to Poland-based FUNDACJA OCALENIE, one of the leading NGOs supporting refugees fleeing their homes and helping them settle in new environments.
“As a Warsaw-based studio, we are facing a radical shift in our everyday reality.” Says Marcin Rusak. “Millions of refugees have already come to Poland, with many more in transit. Poles have been self-organising and creating makeshift volunteering groups, offering their homes, transport and other services, and joining with NGOs”.
“We believe that everyone can use their assets to help people in need. Building on our international connections, we are able to address a wide, international audience to engage in the cause.”
Fundacja Ocalenie is a non-governmental organisation that has been operating since the year 2000 and gained momentum and wide recognition last year during the crisis on the Polish-Belarusian border, saving lives of desperate people no matter their religion skin colour, or political beliefs. The NGO has been helping people fleeing from Syria, Chechnya, Ukraine, Tajikistan, Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, Belarus, and other countries.
“Since the Polish government was blocking our help in previous situations, many people in Poland have worked against the official narrative and supported independent NGOs instead.”
Fundacja Ocalenie’s mission is to help refugees and migrants settle in by providing support on all fronts, from distributing housing, food and essentials to paperwork assistance and integration with local communities.
“When we decided to organize the auction, we have been overwhelmed by the support we received from our friends and colleagues from the US, the UK, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Slovenia, Georgia, the Netherlands, and even Ukraine itself. It was also heartwarming to acknowledge that our Poland-based Belarusian friends who fled Lukashenko’s regime after the faked presidential elections are now donating to help our neighbours.”
