DESIGN BOX – At the Downtown Design Fair during Dubai Design Week 2023, Dachah Studio unveiled the unconventional Kuthub Chair, which draws inspiration from the gentle curves of the UAE’s sand dunes, seamlessly blending with the desert landscape. “Although the Kuthub chair may seem smooth and visually appealing, it intentionally evokes a feeling of discomfort, reflecting the hardships experienced in the desert environment, despite its outwardly smooth sand dunes.”

The Qurs Stool pays tribute to several traditional elements, such as the agal headwear, as well as a baked good in the Gulf known as qurs ugaili. It also incorporates elements resembling the Arabian Iqal, the traditional headpiece worn by men in the Gulf to secure their Ghetra, the traditional headdress. The circular shape of the stool resembles the Gulf in various aspects and offers a sense of security despite its unique form.
