Paradisium

At Burning Man, the iconic festival rising from the sands of the Nevada desert, Dave Kean and the Folly Builders created Paradisium, a grove of 27 tree-shaped towers built from reclaimed lumber and decorated with intricate geometric patterns. Walkways connect the tallest structures, while digital color mapping showed the change of seasons throughout the week. The project “reminds us of the forest’s beauty and our interconnectedness and interdependence with nature while also fostering a sense of community and an investment in our shared future.” Read more about Burning Man 2022.
Hermès in Milan
At Milan Design Week, French fashion house Hermès launched its latest furniture, accessories, and lighting design collections within a stunning installation by Hervé Sauvage and Charlotte Macaux Perelman. Pulse

At DesignMiami and DesignMiami/ Basel, Superblue presented Pulse, the latest biometric work by Rafael Lozano-Hemmer. Six thousand lightbulbs suspended at different heights pulsate at the pace of visitors’ heartbeats thanks to custom-made pulse sensors. Forming a platform for self-representation, individual heartbeats came together to create an immersive chorus of light and sound. Read more…
The Playground
For the Coachella Music and Arts Festivals, New York City-based studio Architensions presented The Playground, a colorful installation bringing urbanity to the desert. Four landmark towers, a few linked by sky bridges, responded to the single-story suburban sprawl in the Coachella Valley. Each tower featured a variety of geometric forms, some with cyan, magenta, and yellow dichroic film that bathes the surrounding area in colors as the sun shines through them. The Sun Within

“I was born in a country that is a stage itself,” said artist and scenographer Francesca Montinaro, who took inspiration from Italian landscapes to create The Sun Within, the set design of the Eurovision Song Contest held in Turin and won by Ukraine. The stage features a kinetic sun, pyrotechnics light shows, waterfalls, and a lush garden plateau inspired by Italian gardens. Read more…
The Chamber Church
The Chamber Church pavilion by German-Chinese studio Büro Ziyu Zhuang in Qingdao, China, recreates the pure shape of classical church architecture with sixty distanced white-off vertical ribs. The architecture “respects the past and looks towards the future providing a religious experience and secular touch,” the studio told Archipanic. Read more…
