Imagine a car that runs on one of the most essential of liquids, a vehicle that makes use of a revolutionary technology that could mark a milestone for the electro-mobility of the future. This car is the QUANT e-Sportlimousine with nanoFLOWCELL® drivetrain concept and it has been officially approved by Tüv Süd for use on public roads in Germany and Europe.

Built around an extremely stable monocoque composed of carbon-fibre structures, QUANT e-Sportlimousine is a four-seater vehicle with gull-wing doors and an innovative intelligent drivetrain concept for electrical mobility.

Four electric motors, one per wheel, draw their power from a completely new battery system: the nanoFLOWCELL® energy storage system. This technology conceived and developed at the simulation lab of nanoFLOWCELL AG in Vaduz, Liechtenstein. The technology works on the proven principles of the redox flow-cell but it extends the technical characteristics and possibilities of this technology to new heights.

DESIGN: Measuirng more then 5.25 metres, a width of more than 2.2 metres and a height of 1.35 metres, the exterior of the new QUANT e-Sportlimousine runs from the windscreen almost the entire length of the car to the wing-like, sculptured rear end. The two unusually long gull- wing doors, inspired by eagle wings, cover the complete front and rear seating areas so that the car does without a b-pillar altogether.

Wood, copper, and leather dominate the interior design. QUANT e-Sportlimousine debuted at Geneva 2014 Motor Show.

TECHNOLOGY: Thanks to its nanoFLOWCELL®, a revolutionary further development of flow cell technology, nanoFLOWCELL AG will make it possible for the first time in history to power an automobile with flow cell battery systems. This especially compact and powerful flow cell battery delivers a driving range of up to 600 km in the QUANT e- Sportlimousine prototype.

Patented in 1976 for NASA and the American space programme, Redox flow-cell batteries are a very modern form of energy storage device. Today, flow cell installations are already in use as storage systems for domestic solar and wind power plants. They help capture the energy when it is generated and save it for use when it is needed.

nanoFLOWCELL® is an especially powerful and compact flow cell battery that can store 20 times more energy than the conventional lead-acid battery. It has a 5-times greater capacity (and therefore potential driving range) than current lithium-ion technology, with which many current electric cars are powered.

After the approval for use on public roads, Nunzio La Vecchia, chief technical officer at nanoFLOWCELL AG, said: “This is a historic moment and a milestone not only for our company but perhaps even for the electromobility of the future. We have put the product of 14 years’ hard development work on the road… But this is only the beginning of our journey of discovery,”.

Prof. Jens-Peter Ellermann, chairman of the board of directors at nanoFLOWCELL AG said “We’ve got major plans, and not just within the automobile industry.
