Extending the length of the colonnade, the ‘installation incorporated a bespoke carpet creating a pixelated landscape weaving with the rhythm of the neoclassical columns of the Shanghai Conference Centre. Skyrunner integrated the RE/Form collection’s original ‘Pixel’ design with an intricate overlay of the three collaborators’ logos.

The original series consists of 22 designs capturing Hadid’s signature use of interweaving, layering and the play of light and shadow. Themes and patterns that feature prominently in the Zaha Hadid’s work include pixelated landscapes, striated lines, ribbon-like projections and organic cellular form.

The designs introduce custom new colours for Royal Thai commercial carpets, with hues of turquoise, red and green in their colour palettes. Translated into Axminster-loomed and hand-tufted designs, each design represents reconfiguration and transformation—the theme itself a reflection of Royal Thai’s recent reformation. RE/Form is a celebration of Hadid’s legacy and Royal Thai’s passion for inspiration.

At Design Shanghai, Zaha Hadid Design presented also the new range of ‘bio-fluid’ tableware launched earlier this year at Maison & Objet and comprising a bowl capturing the dynamism of a liquefied vortex and candle holders inspired by the biological process of cell growth. Read more…

“When designing objects Zaha was never constrained by any given use or spatial context.” Explains director Woody Yao. “We continue to follow and draw strength from this approach so that the collection has room to evolve without compromising the integrity of the design.”
