Stockholm 2016 – Finnish design brand Iittala launches a new collection of tableware and home textiles designed in collaboration with Japanese fashion designer Issey Miyake. Smooth shapes meet pastel Nordic colours. The new series comprise a coffee set, trays and candle holders in high quality ceramics, glassware and pleated textiles.
Iittala X Issey Myake helps to bring harmony to everyday life, where we are constantly encouraged to do more and live faster. “The collection sets a gentle mood and invites to celebrate the rituals of domestic life: relaxing, working, socialising and shopping” say at Iittala.
The smoothed pentagon forms of the ceramic and glass designs suggest a non-daily element and invite to touch and feel the materials. The colour scheme of the coffee set and tea-light candle-holders ranges from white to pink and dark green to remind the awakening of spring and the blossoming of flowers. The vases are available both in crystal clear glass and smokey-grey.
The textile series feature napkins, placemats and table runners, cushions and tote bags. The designs are based on Issey Miyake’s original folding and pleating techniques that have been used in its fashion collections since late 1980s.
The designs are available in ivory, light and dark grey, emerald and pink. The transformation from the flat shape to the 3D shape of the textile products suggests a blooming blossom.
With Iittala X Issey Myake the simple and minimal design language of Japan and Finland complement each other. A shared respect for tradition and innovative materials has led the two cultures towards an increasingly similar aesthetic.
