Architecture – Irish-born, Australia-based artist Marcus Byrne doesn’t think that Artificial Intelligence will simply replace artists. “Just as mainstream photography contributed to the birth of Impressionism and more abstract avant-garde movements, it could unlock a brand-new potential in contemporary art.” From here, he envisioned and AI-crafted imaginary homes, transforming the shapes and materials of trumpets, guitars and percussions into otherworldly architectures.

Byrne used MidJourney, an advanced software that uses a machine learning algorithm trained on a huge amount of image data to produce unique images. Once fed a precise short description, the AI generates images that are then reworked by Byrne. “By tweaking the words, the images got closer to what I had imagined. I then used Photoshop to clean bits up and do some depth of field blurs and subtle grading.”
Drumkit.
Drawing from the dynamic design of a drumkit, a home for Ringo Starr could feature bold and contrasting geometric shapes. “The exterior might incorporate circular and cylindrical elements reminiscent of drum shells and cymbals. The interior spaces could be open and spacious, with various levels and platforms that mirror the different levels of mounted toms.” Marcus Byrne told Archipanic.
Drums.
For the House Sound project, the artist also developed AI penthouses based on the design of drums and electronic drums. Each percussion unit is arranged on different levels and becomes an independent sun-filled room.
Saxophone.
Imagine a home with curved and sleek lines reminiscent of the curves of a saxophone. “The exterior could feature brass elements resembling the instrument’s metallic body. These elements could catch and reflect sunlight and play with light and shadow. The interior could feature rounded corners and cosy alcoves mirroring the smooth melodies of John Coltrane.”
French horn.
Inspired by trumpets, trombones, or French horns, a series of AI homes have no right angles to create the perfect vibe and acoustics for listening to music. The House Sound project also comprises a harp building characterised by the musical instrument’s iconic shape.
