D3 – Dubai Design District returns in physical form since the beginning of the pandemic. With 150+ events and activities including free-to-attend exhibitions, pop-ups, talks and workshops, installations, unique retail experiences and activities, there is truly something for everyone.
Here the new UAE Designer Exhibition showcases the works of locally based talent and home-grown design. On show also the inaugural D3 Architecture Festival showcases landmark regional architectural projects under the theme ‘Identity, Context and Placemaking in the Gulf’.
Deterministic Path by Iman Ibrahim and Mahmoud Diaa is a concept that adapts to physical distancing with a focus on encouraging social intervention with safety in mind, the installation consists of a modular design grid, created for flexibility.
The Nebula installation by by Wilson Associates + Vibhor Sogani + Studio Mark consists of a stage-inspired setting in which visitors are invited to walk inside from beneath the structure. Here, they will encounter several sphere-like, reflective surfaces that create an overhead kaleidoscope-effect of facial reflections. By night, lighting installations create shadows to provide a different interpretation of the kaleidoscope effect.
Designed by Ana Carreras, The Megalith installation by Mirage x Lever is a solid aluminium sculpture serves as a modern abstract interpretation of the first known architectural structure in human history, the dolmen serving as a paean to the mystery that continues to surround them.
Seven pillars and safely distanced public seatings compose Hozan Hozan Zangana’s Fata Morgana centripetal installation in the heart of Dubai where people can safely cross each other’s paths according to Middle Eastern construction techniques. Read more…
