Design – Rem Kolhaas’ studio OMA occupied hidden spaces in the Brera Design District to craft an immersive dreamscape drawing parallels between the formation and quarrying of stone and the realisation of dreams. Titled Beyond the Surface, the installation by Dutch natural stone manufacturer SolidNature featured a collection of bespoke stone creations designed by various designers, including Sabine Marcelis, Iranian artist Bita Fayyazi and others.

Beyond The Surface portrayed the harmony that can exist between nature and human craftsmanship, layering experiences both indoors and out, inspiring a sense of discovery within the viewer and making an unforgettable impression.
SolidNature debuted last year at Milan Design Week. This year’s installation is the design brand’s first solo exhibition. However, the Dutch manufacturer is renowned for creating luxury interiors and exteriors for high-profile international projects working with some of the most influential names in design, fashion, and culture, including Prada, OMA, Fendi, Sabine Marcelis, Yves Saint Laurent, and beyond.
Created by Fuorisalone, Milan Design Week’s platform and festival across the city, the Best Installation Award recognises and promotes the most unforgettable installations on display in Milan which embody contents, projects and activities of relevance and interest to the international design community.
“The award has a highly democratic value. Following the selection of twelve outstanding installations by a jury of industry specialists, the shortlist was then opened to a public vote which determined the most engaging and exciting event.” Explain at Fuorisalone.
“We are humbled and overwhelmed by the success of this year’s installation.” Said David Mahyari, CEO of SolidNature. “We are extremely grateful to the Fuorisalone team and the public of Milan Design Week for choosing our installation as their 2023 winner. Our goal was to inspire viewers to dream, looking at the world through the lens of SolidNature and we are happy to know we have achieved that. Stay tuned to see what we do next!”
