InterHeroes: Federico Babina designs superheroes' interiors

What if Hulk, Batman or Spiderman asked an interior-designer to create their own living room? With the InterHeroes series, Barcelona based architect Federico Babina imagined furniture and designs that match the persona and powers of comic superheroes.

Spiderman.

Superman.

“Comic and architecture… What an interesting match! So many unexpected and common paths” says Federico Babina to ArchiPanic. “Comic strips represent one of my first encounters with architecture. The imaginary journeys through Gotham City and Spiderman’s New York… I believed they truly contributed to shape a whole generation of architects, not just mine”.

Hulk.

The series comprises 17 interior design proposals for imaginary super-powered clients. bat-shaped chairs and lamps would match batman’s taste as much as a “cobwebbed” seat would make Spiderman happy.

Wolverine.

Hulk wouldn’t mind and muscly and stocky green armchair. Catwoman would enjoy a feline version of the famous Eclisse table-lamp of Vico Magistretti; Wolverine could actually fell in love with a Fontana painting on the wall.

Catwoman.

Storytelling is the common language of architects and comic-designers, suggests Federico Babina “Their common ground is a creative interpretation of reality. The ability to envision future worlds. Comic designers feed on urban architecture as much as architects fed on comic urban spaces”.

Daredevil.

The series features interior-designs for Captain America, Flash, Iron Man and Wonder Woman but also Silver Surfer, Daredevil, Thor and the Fantastic Four. The shadow of the super hero signs off every single interior.

WonderWoman.

“I tried to create a balance between the playful language of comics and the more sober style that architects use when they propose their designs” said Babina to Archipanic. “It’s like an architectural script: the chairs, the lamps and interiors compose a mosaic that speak of their owner”.
