Design. At a moment when design risks being flattened into image and trend, Edit Napoli 2026 made the case for research, and for design’s capacity to generate culture, production and fresh opportunity. Curated by Emilia Petruccelli and Domitilla Dardi, the eighth edition of the international fair for editorial and author-led design spread installations and showcases across Naples, in southern Italy. Here’s what caught our eye.

Zaven’s alabaster Fade Vase series for Artieri 1895 turns the joint into a feature in its own right. Colour and light expose how the object is crafted, setting up a conversation between solidity and translucency, poetry and rigour. “Continuous research drives the work, with advanced industrial technology meeting artisanal skill.”

Fine craft and meaningful storytelling led the way. DUNAE grew out of a family-owned precision engineering firm that became a design brand. Its crafted vessels presented at Edit Napoli 2026 “paired the rigour of rationalist architecture with the organic flow of nature, taking the way coastal dunes shift and change as a production philosophy.”

The table as a place for encounter, dialogue and shared experience is the starting point of Margherita Rui‘s Common Ground installation, developed with NasonMoretti, Fornace Brioni, Fortuny, Imolarte and Amenta Incisioni. Colour in glass, glaze on terracotta, mark-making and artistic printing on fabric, traces on ceramics: each element feeds a shared visual grammar of symbols, colour blocks and recurring gestures, all central to Rui’s design research.

From the Alps to Naples. At Edit Napoli 2026, UTOL Ceramica presents Stammtisch, a traditional convivial Alpine table from Val di Fassa, reimagined in blue by David Romelli, Flavio Rossi and Scatola Cortese by architect Alessandro Scialdone. The hand-welded iron furniture features red ceramic drops that link northern and southern Italian heritage.

For the Due Sicilie furniture collection x Chroma Composite, Debonademeo Studio looked to ancestral decorative motifs found on the floors, walls, architectural details and textile surfaces of churches, palaces, squares and terraces across southern Italy. Mediterranean geometries and colour palettes meet an innovative material that combines composites with fragments of reclaimed matter.

In the CULT section of Edit Napoli 2026, DWA Design Studio and carmaker Lancia joined forces to translate defining features of the new Lancia Gamma into a spatial language of light, matter and movement. Elements of the car return as sculptures and functional objects, in an environment suspended between the domestic and the dreamlike.

Combining art, science and community practice, Margaret and Christine Wertheim, in collaboration with the Museum Frieder Burda, crafted a textile installation made entirely by crochet that mimics, through organic forms and saturated colours, the structures of living coral reefs. The two islands on show were part of a larger woollen archipelago: a strong environmental message crafted stitch by stitch by over 4,000 people from many countries.

Peace Archetypes by Fabrizia Frezza was a site-specific installation in which matter, light and word occupied the five altars of the Church of San Rocco in Chiaia. The sculptures, in terracotta, enamel and cocciopesto, were made with artisan and artist Pericle Moretti. Felice Limosani’s video installation added a visual score made only of light and words.

Curated by Domitilla Dardi, the Controtempo exhibition gathers the most representative works of Massimo Lunardon, dreamer and master glassmaker, whose historic and ongoing collaborations span leading international artists, designers and architects. The showcase brings together quirky creatures and fantastical crafts. The title nods to the glassmaker’s attitude: he often anticipates time while also challenging it, going against it.

Lombardini 22, with Mangini and B&B Italia, explored human and relational balance through the L’Equilibrista installation. Suspended elements and visible counterweights formed a dynamic environment in which movement continuously reshaped the whole. More a living system than a static composition, it readjusted with every interaction, showing visitors how individual actions shape collective stability and how balance emerges through constant adaptation.
