“As a professional interior designer with twenty years of experience, I have worked designing homes and rooms in furniture stores.” Iñaki Aliste Lizarralde told Archipanic. “The TV series floor plan project started about ten years ago when I made the floor plan of Frasier for fun. A few summers later, a friend and a huge fan of Sex & The City asked me to draw Carrie Bradshaw’s apartment. So I did it for her… Then she asked me for the apartment of “Friends,” and then for… Until now!”
“For each floor plan, I normally download the entire series and research on Google to find screen captures, photograms, or other information. In a couple of hours, I can locate all I need using the forward button of the player.”
“I revise the episodes several times and point to the ones where everything I need appears. Meanwhile, I create a first basic layout that I refined and developed with notes of aid. When I made a composition of place, I start a second layout to fit the final dimensions and proportions and to place furniture and complete the final shape of the drawing.”
“Then I work on the third and definitive floor plan with extreme care.” To complete the final drawing Iñaki Aliste Lizarralde revises his annotations to find the right timber tones, materials’ colours, fabrics, and further details.
“I don’t really binge on telly series. I am more a cinephile.” Confesses Iñaki Aliste Lizarralde to Archipanic. Indeed, he has also developed the floor plans of iconic movies, including Hitchcock’s Rope, Kubrik’s 2001 Space Odyssey, and more. But this is another story… Stay tuned!
