The Milan-based studio draws inspiration from the world around them, from human behavior and contemporary society’s greatest obsessions [Read more]. After money, the perfect fit body, and god, Laura and Alberto explore how humankind has always attempted the impossible to make the mortal immortal through the creation of the LEGEND.
The designers transformed their studio into a domestic space/concert stage while painting a psychological portrait of a generation whose most private moments are not private at all. During Milan Design Week, the installation becomes the stage for live performances – and, yes, someone actually did say to have spotted there the legendary, the one and one only, King!
The show features a series of new “legendary pieces,” limited-edition objects and paintings shown together in a fluid environment that breaks the boundaries between artistic disciplines, bursting through conventional limits on freedom of expression.
At the center of the main room, The King Sofa dominates the scene. The colossal seating concept creates site-specific installations wherever one can place it, whether at home or in public spaces.
Guitar cases become statuesque low-tables, handmade by masters in the ancient art of mosaics from the city of Ravenna, and build a dialogue with the enigmatic Diamond Cabinet, Christmas Gifts, Cakes, and exotic soft Palm Trees to form a sparkling and glowing postcard scene.
THE KING is “the quintessential design expression of a gigantic ego: the Legend.” Says Laura Baldassarri. “Because it takes a Legend, an idol, to create a system of superstitions and beliefs that touch people, triggering a sense of awe capable of moving the masses and making people live forever.”
