Design. At this year’s 3 Days of Design in Copenhagen, California-based biotech company MycoWorks presented Reishi™ in the Nordic Light—a design showcase that reimagines material potential through its revolutionary mycelium-based biomaterial. The exhibition brought together five standout Danish studios—OEO Studio, Frederik Gustav, Cecilie Manz, Maria Bruun, and Atelier Axo—each invited to explore Reishi™ in their own unique way under the creative direction of Marie-Louise Høstbo.

“By introducing Reishi™, we have redefined how we engage with materials,” said Høstbo. “Our goal was to foster a dialogue between the legacy of Danish design and the emerging possibilities of biomaterials—a conversation where functionality meets tactile beauty, visionary innovation and elevated ambitions.”
Reishi™, a leather-like material engineered from mycelium at a cellular level, offers both strength and sensory appeal, challenging conventional materials and pointing towards a more sustainable future for high-performance design.

Each studio responded with a collectible piece that explored Nordic light, tactility, and tradition in fresh, future-focused ways. Frederik Gustav’s Arbor pendant light draws from the fragility of kite structures, floating Reishi™ panels within steel frames to explore materiality and airiness.

atelier axo introduced the Eaves Lamp, a sleek wall light that combines metal, modular assembly, and Reishi™, playing with geometric precision and shifting textures. Maria Bruun’s Subject Matter Paravent is a sculptural, light-filtering screen crafted from FSC-certified wood and translucent Reishi™ panels—merging function with ambient poetry and paying homage to Danish spatial design.

With her signature attention to scale and simplicity, Cecilie Manz created Et Ark, a bag-like container that reveals Reishi™’s natural texture and imperfections. Crafted with Oregon pine, it highlights a refined balance between aesthetics and utility.

Finally, OEO Studio’s Centurio lamp channels their concept of “compelling minimalism,” using Reishi™ as both structure and surface to emphasise clean lines, warm tactility, and a deep respect for sustainable craft. Together, the collection shines a new light on Danish design, where legacy and bio-innovation meet in harmony.
