Design. At Salone del Mobile in Milan, French furniture company Roche Bobois unveils striking design collections developed in collaboration with acclaimed filmmaker Pedro Almodovar and famed actress Rossy De Palma. The Spanish director and diva’s eclectic iconography and attitude imbued a design series to create a bold cinematic dreamscape. “We live in a time deserving smiles to awaken the kid in us”, explained Gregory Dias Monreal, Roche Bobois’ trends and visual merchandising director.

Pedro Almodovar’s Cromàtica collection is all about colour, from fiery reds to deep blues. The El Deseo Lounge sofa, originally designed by Hans Hopfer, has been reissued specially for this occasion. The new key pieces retrace the film director’s graphic, aesthetic universe. The series features iconic images and posters from movies such as Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown to Volver and more.

True to the spirit of the original 1971 design, the El Deseo collection features lacquered stirrups, available in several colours or tone-on-tone. Inspired by the Protagonist of Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, the Pepa cocktail tables showcase block shapes with rounded corners, available in colours selected by the director.

The Rondo cabinet spotlights four images from the director’s graphic universe: the Ataque, Tacones, and Mujeres film posters and a reproduction of a photograph by Pedro Almodóvar. The collection comprises pillows from iconic films, including the famed Volver’s Penelope Crusz portrait.

Iconic Spanish actress, multidisciplinary artist and Jean Paul Gaultier’s muse Rossy De Palma teamed with Roche Bovois for a capsule collection. “I envisioned a unique, poetic vanity with a mirror depicting an eye, in which you look at your reflection to take care of yourself,” the multifaceted artist explained.

A range of decorative accessories rounds out the collection, taking inspiration from iconic feminine objects: the fan, a trademark accessory of Rossy de Palma, is featured on vases and rugs, while the peineta, a traditional ornament worn in a woman’s hair, inspires elegant lamps.
