Milan 2018 – As you walk along the central corridor of moooi furniture installation you can discover the legends and the unhappy-ended stories of species which don’t walk on our planet anymore. For The Museum of Extinct Animal, “we searched museums around the world and found the most incredible drawings of bygone animals, documented by explorers on their travels. We were able to borrow them to showcase them in Milan.” Explains Marcel Wanders.

“So much of what has lived is lost and can only live in our memories and imagination. For Moooi, the Museum of Extinct Animals became an inspiration. We want to share our excitement, wonder and love, and try humbly, against our better judgement, to hold on to what is lost and celebrate it coming back alive again.” Says Marcel Wanders.
Inspired by these magnificent extinct animal drawings, moooi team created designs for surfaces: a new collection of fabrics, leathers, wall-covering and carpets. Dodos, umbrella squids and quirky armadillos populate verdant forest on a black background together with weird fishes, giant tigers and a the ancestors of contemporary zebras.
Every single carpet, wallcovering and fabric possesses unique characteristics like every animal species in our wonderful world. Their exotic appearance, striking features, cuteness and all their essence are absorbed into Moooi’s new design language.
