DESIGN BOX – A forgotten mattress on the street inspired British-Israeli designer Ron Arad to create Matrizia, an unconventional sofa originally designed for Moroso and now re-edited as a limited edition for More-So, the Italian company’s department dedicated to experimental projects.

Halfway between an objet trouvé, a random encounter, and a ready-made, Matrizia is an ironic fusion between the words mattress and Patrizia (Moroso, the company’s Art Director). The sofa invites us to reflect on the responsible use and creative transformation of objects at the end of their lifecycle. The result is a soft sculpture blending a smart design approach with craftsmanship.
Ron Arad is a British-Israeli industrial designer, artist, and architectural designer who blurs the lines between contemporary art and industrial design. His research is characterised by continuous experimentation with the forms of objects and the expressive possibilities of materials like steel, aluminium, carbon fibre, and polyethylene.
Moroso, the brainchild of Agostino Moroso and his wife Diana, was founded in 1952 with the aim of manufacturing sofas, armchairs, and furniture, based on a production model which balances industrial processes with handcrafted techniques and finishes. Today, the company positions itself in the haute couture segment of international design and as a leader in the upholstered furniture sector.
