At Stockholm Furniture Fair 2015, Danish architectural lighting manifacturer Luis Poulsen relaunched an iconic PH lamp designed in 1929 by maestro Poul Henningsen. The new limited edition of PH 3½-2½ comes with a opal glass or untreated copper shade that oxidates over time.
The legendary PH series includes pendants, table, floor and wall lamps. Each piece features three layered shades that excapsulate the bulb and spread the light. Designed by Danish architect Poul Henningsen the series is the result of an entire carrier focus on studying how light effects spaces and people.
The new PH 3½-2½ comes with two top shades. An opal glass shade, provides soft comfortable diffuse light thanks also to the two bottom glass shades. Whilst a polished solid copper shade with a white painted inner surface directs the light softly downwards.
The PH 3½-2½ copper table lamp comes with a high gloss surface. But in order to meet many clients’ desire, the copper surface in not laquered nor treated. Over time it oxidates and develops a patina that add special character to the lamp.
“The patination process begins from the moment of assembly, and proceeds during production and distribution. When a product is taken out of the box, it may thus have already begun oxidising. We provide a set of white cotton gloves with each light fixture, so people can avoid leaving fingerprints during installation” say at Louis Poulsen.
