DESIGN BOX – Dutch furniture company Moooi launches the Knitty Lounge Chair by Slovenian designer Nika Zupanc. “An icon of relaxation that transforms simple materials into something unexpected that at first seemed impossible.”

The Knitty Lounge Chair is made with extra-large ‘yarn’ that resembles giant ship ropes. The yarn is upholstered with knitted fabric, providing unparalleled softness. The basket weave pattern adds texture and tactile feedback to the design, creating a unique blend of scale and softness.

Nika Zupanc traditionally makes careful selections of her themes and forms to offer an exciting look at the predominately male furniture design market, where all the aspiration is poured into the technical, rational, sober, and utilitarian. To accomplish this Nika Zupanc uses her poetic judgment, inner battles with stereotypes, and long-lasting affairs with technologies.

For over twenty years, Moooi has inspired and seduced the world with sparkling and innovative designs. The venture, founded in 2001, is currently led by Marcel Wanders and Robin Bevers. Moooi is named after the Dutch word for beautiful – Mooi. The third ‘O’ in the brand name stands for an extra value in terms of beauty and uniqueness.
