Interiors. GYMNASIUM Abu Dhabi is the ultimate kids’ martial arts club of the eponymous international network. Designed by KIDZ Studio, the gym refines the brand’s distinctive aesthetic while embracing a gentle, welcoming sensibility where a calming colour palette encounters a bold choice of materiality.

Unlike its Dubai sibling, located within a high-traffic environment, GYMNASIUM Abu Dhabi enjoys a more intimate setting. This allowed the designers to move away from statement façades and concentrate on atmosphere — one defined by warmth, balance, and subtle transitions. KIDZ Studio has already brought Gymnasium to life in Russia, Qatar. In Abu Dhabi, “the focus shifts from the bold urban energy of past projects to a calm, cohesive interior that celebrates materiality and tone,” the studio told Archipanic.

The space unfolds through clearly zoned areas: two tatami halls, changing rooms, staff quarters, and a reception with a relaxed waiting area facing the façade. At the heart of GYMNASIUM Abu Dhabi lies the lecture zone — the conceptual and compositional core that unites the club and gives rhythm to its daily routine.

“Materiality plays a defining role in shaping the experience,” shared KIDZ Studio. True to GYMNASIUM’s recognisable identity, the interior palette builds upon wood, stone, and stainless steel. Yet here, contrasts are softened; instead of graphic juxtapositions, shades and textures melt gently into one another.

Blonde timber panels, matte stone surfaces, and brushed steel details form a harmonious dialogue, bringing warmth and refinement to what might otherwise be a purely functional environment.

The façade itself becomes part of the narrative. Vertical green elements extend inward, blurring the boundaries between the outside and the in. Spider glazing and sleek metal fixings lend structural precision, while stainless steel cladding subtly reflects light, offsetting the earthy palette within. The result is a Gymnasium that feels at once dynamic and serene — a place where the discipline of martial arts meets the comfort of well-crafted design.
