London 2018 – Toronto-based studio Hi Thanks Bye debuts with the ‘Collection O’ which was inspired by both Canadian landscapes and Chinese gardens. The studio’s co-founders, Stein Wang and Topher Kong, immigrated from China to Canada, where they started their new practice.

The series features 6 furniture pieces for indoor and out door spaces with a functional and versatile attitude. The powder-coated stainless steel pieces come in a dark green hue and a minimal and lightweight design able to tune discretely in multiple interior design setting.

The divider is composed of two 0-shaped panels which have been laser-cut to create access to interstitial shelves made of folded sheet.  The side table features two bent iron rods which are joined together to support a round top.

Hi Thanks Bye teamed up with textile designer Avis Ho to create the OO rug-seat. The Collection features also a linear stool, a floor lamp with a fringe hiding the light-source and a chair made of a tubular frame and an upholstered seat and and back rest.

“Seeing the panoramic vista of Canada in places like Algonquin Park, the Bruce Peninsula and Fogo Island, we were inspired to create a line of furniture that would mirror the vast and natural beauty of the country.” Explain the designers. “At the same time we wanted to incorporate our knowledge of the traditional Chinese garden made up of rocks, water, plants and architectural structures into their creations.”

A new colour-way is going to be launched at London Design Fair – Sept. 20-23 -, the international trade show that occurs during the upcoming London Design Festival.
