From designer trattorias to ice cream spoons, our selection includes projects and installations by the Castiglioni brothers, Masquespacio, Studio Ossidiana, Carlo Ratti, and more. Food Design Arena
April 16-21, @ Salone del Mobile, Euro Cucina – Pav. 2-4 [Map].
EuroCucina, Salone del Mobile‘s biennial exhibition dedicated to the kitchen, presents All You Have Ever Wanted to Know About Food Design in Six Performances, an event curated by six influential food magazines. At the Food Arena, they engage with artists, designers and chefs to discover the present and future of the ingredients that nature offers us. L’Integrale magazine teamed up with chefs and visual artists to invite visitors to imagine what we will eat in the sea of the future. Linseed Journal joins forces with Arabeschi di Latte while Family Style dialogues with Studio Drifts. Find out more.
Davide Longoni at Alcova
April 16-21 @ Alcova, Villa Bagatti-Valsecchi, Via Vittorio Emanuele II 48, Varedo [Map].
For Alcova, bread-crafting maestro Davide Longoni and Madre Project create a pop-up micro bakery designed as a learning space for masterclasses at Villa Bagatti-Valsecchi. As a neon sign reads, the motto is Pensare con il pane per incantare il mondo [Think with the bread to enchant the world]. To achieve that, they tease visitors with michetta bread with mortadella or focaccia with pastrami and spicy mayonnaise.
Projects to Serve: Castiglioni and Catering
April 16-21 @ Fondazione Achille Castiglioni, Piazza Castello 27 [Map].
Fondazione Achille Castiglioni presents an exhibition dedicated to catering setups that the Castiglioni brothers designed between the late 1950s and early 1970s. Projects to Serve showcases architectures that no longer exist, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of those places and experience brilliant spatial solutions.
Trattoria Altavista
April 16-21 @ 5Vie, Palazzo Litta, Corso Magenta 24 [Map].
Trattoria Altra Vista, an innovative travelling initiative born from the creative minds of the Anotherview collective, announces its debut with a Pilot Episode at the prestigious Palazzo Litta in the heart of the Le 5Vie district. Anotherview created an imaginary trattoria, which will come to life through a series of dinners based on Italian gastronomy’s ingredients and culinary and cultural traditions [Find out more]. The set-up features pieces by Analogia Project, Andrea Zambelli, Duilio Forte and Simone Fanciullacci, along with lighting designs by Davide Groppi, curtains by Dedar and seats by Arflex. Around the space, digital windows by Anotherview offer breathtaking panoramas.
TIMEMADE
April 16-21 @ 5Vie, Giusti Boutique, Via Spadari 6 [Map].
At the Giusti Boutique, a selection of TIMEMADE works designed by David Dolcini will be exclusively on view. The project explores the impact of time on humanity through a body of woodwork, as exemplified by the production of Acetaia Giusti’s balsamic vinegar.
SunRICE by Carlo Ratti and ItaloRota
April 16-21 @ Botanico di Brera, Via Brera 28 [Map].
CRA-Carlo Ratti Associati and the late Italo Rota teamed up with Italian chef Niko Romito to present SunRICE, The Recipe of Happiness, an ENI-produced exhibition in Brera Botanical Garden. The exhibition shows how processing rice waste can become a raw material for new and sustainable architecture. After the design week, the rice waste-made installation will be transformed again, becoming nourishment to be reintroduced into the garden’s soil.
Prendete e mangiate by Linda Pilar Zanolla
April 16-21 @ 5Vie, Palazzo Litta, Corso Magenta 24 [Map].
Prendete e mangiate (Take and eat) is an exhibition curated by Linda Pilar Zanolla and produced by the 5Vie design district. It explores the power of conviviality around the table. Among the artists featured are Ávila, Arianna De Luca, Studio Serena Cancellieri, Ron Arad, and Giopato & Coombes, MA! Studio, Daria Dazzan, Vittorio Passaro and Marie Eklund.
Paper Worlds by Nespresso
April 16-21 @ Brera kiosk, Via Brera 21 [Map].
Nespresso teamed up with Studio Ossidiana to present Paper Worlds, an installation in Brera Design District inspired by the company’s compostable coffee capsules made from 82% paper pulp. The neighbourhood newsstand features paper-made homes, sells newspapers, and offers coffee.
Zacapa Soul Nest
April 16-20 in Via Pontaccio 10 [Map].
Guatemalan rum Zacapa presents Zacapa Soul Nest, a convivial design space with revolving walls and decorated furniture by Massimiliano Locatelli, where you can sip and taste mixology cocktails and fine pairings by Michelin-starred chef Carlo Cracco. Plunge into a multi-sensorial ambience tuned with the sounds of the jungle.
Bis Spoon by Terra ice cream shop
April 16-21 at Terra Gelato, Via Vitruvio 38 [Map].
Ice cream shop Terra presents Bis, a ceramic spoon designed by Mario Scairato for enjoying the gelato ritual at home. The soft shape, the lacquered finish, the pastel colours, and the terracotta handle highlight the creamy softness of exquisite artisanal ice creams.
Around the Table by Masquespacio
April 16-21 in Via Luigi Porro Lambertenghi 3 [Map].
Spanish design studio Masquespacio presents Around the Table, a lounge installation and an exclusive table setting with their new products, including other tableware pieces from various designers in the Isola Design District’s design community. An exhibition by day that transforms into a private space for dinner experiences by night. The installation also showcases design tools and tableware by Macaroni Event, an exercise series that will take place during dinners using their innovative fluid tools. The aim is to focus on the creative process, take action and establish new relationships.
Don Papa Experience Lab
April 16-19 @ BOBINO Milano, Piazzale Genova 4 [Map].
Plunge in the Southern Asian jungle with Don Papa to discover the true spirit of Sugralandia. The famed rum from the Philippines invites design lovers to a vibrant festival at Bobino Milano. Each night, exotic cocktails are paired with tribal DJ sets and design pieces by sustainable home decor start-up Rippotai. Acclaimed street artist TVBOY unveils his Save The Planet artworks.
