The Fenc-e Nature series by Philippe Starck includes an armchair, sofas and a coffee tables. Defined by the designer as a “lifestyle collection of laid-back elegance”, Fenc-e Nature is characterised by organic, almost primitive, forms and tactile elements.
Ample armrests in solid teak are sandblasted to create a natural, rough effect. Each seat’s individual backrest is handwoven with rope according to specifically studied pattern. The organic form of the die-cast aluminium base has also been applied to the base of the two combined coffee tables with a sandblasted solid teak stave top.
“Today outdoor furniture doesn’t only need to perform.” Says Rodolfo Dordoni who designed the Sail Out sofa project taking inspiration from the spirit of 1950s holiday resorts. The versatile and functional series is composed of three modules for the seat and three related elements that together create an infinite variety of combinations. The armrests and backrests feature an interlocking mechanism fitted in the structure’s teak panels similar to that of a car seats.
The Sail Out family is completed by by round poufs and a single low table in yellow-white or green-white terrazzo or cement which is supported on teak feet. Dordoni’s design range includes also the small Dine Out stackable armchair and the Dine Out armchair. A sculptural dining table comes with a single conical concrete base, the top is available in concrete or teak slats that converge towards the centre.
Patricia Urquiola created Trampoline, a love bed with a strong personality. “During a trip to Greenland I noted these little trampolines outside the locals’ houses. This playful object inspired me to design a friendly haven to enjoy the outdoors in great comfort.” Says Patricia Urquiola who is also Cassina Art Director.
Thanks to a set of welcoming cushions, the soft and playful curves of this relaxing island have been designed for large and welcoming spaces. Handwoven polypropylene ropes create a multicoloured interwoven mélange.
The collection features also modernists icons such as the Doron Hotel’s armchair by Charlotte Perriand. Through a profound study with the Le Corbusier Foundation and the heirs of the co-authors, Cassina updated also the iconic LC Collection by Le Corbusier, Jeanneret and Perriand to outdoor-proof designs.
