But how a spirit, endangered animals and design came together in the first place?

For its 10th anniversary Monkey 47 launched a crowd-funding limited edition series of collectible bottles supporting 6 species of monkeys endangered by deforestation and poaching. The iconic monkey on the dry gin’s label gives space to the threatened primates to raise awareness on the emergency while donating the whole profit to WWF and other international organizations.

In biological terms, we humans are also primates – but not one of the 283 species that are currently threatened with extinction. Indeed, our kind is part of the cause of their precarious situation.” Says Alexander Stein, founder of Monkey 47. The bottles on sale at the Monkeykiosk e-shop are empty in content but filled with promise, say at Monkey 47 to Archipanic. “Our healthful thanks go out to all those willing to buy an empty bottle – it takes a brave soul to forgo one’s favourite gin!”

The 6 primates Monkey 47 supports are Milton’s Titi, Roloway Monkey, Western Gorilla, Bornean Orangutan, Golden Lion Tamarin, Proboscis Monkey.

And design? Monkey 47 has always been design-driven and sponsors Isola Design District, one of the hippest creative neighborhood of Milan Design Week. In the wake of the pandemic IDD went virtual in order to pursue its mission: bringing forward sustainability with design-thinking.

And here Archipanic joined the game! Monkey 47 teamed up with us to curate a virtual exhibition showing how creativity can truly make a difference. We have invited 5 international designers, architects and craftsmen who have developed projects supporting endangered wildlife.

Monkey 47 was born blending great British traditions, the exoticness of India and the pureness of the German Black Forest. The iconic monkey feeling cheeky on the gin’s label is a tribute to the brand’s founder NAME beloved pet. 47 are the selected botanicals such as berries and herbs from the German Black Forest which macerate in the pure waters of the woods.
