Last night a personal trainer saved my life… In London, a work out session feels like going to the club. Neon signs, black walls, music and a pop-up bar. The new underground 1Rebel gym by Studio C102 combines industrial-chic style with a glamorous clubby atmosphere.

The 8.500 square-foot project is situated in Broadgate Circle, London, in the basement underneath the circular open-air square. The second branch of 1Rebel fitness company occupies a previous plant-room and storage space. Kyriakos Katsaros, founder of Studio C102, says “The brief was to design each new 1Rebel gym to look as individual as possible in order to keep the brand’s promise of every class feeling like a night out”.

The street level entrance of 1Rebel Broadgate welcomes visitors with a cinema themed sign which wraps around the inner wall. Placed behind dark welding curtains, 1Rebel neon logos are combined with some green filters to create a unique green ‘clubby’ glow.

The reception area and retail zone are lit by industrial light fittings which add a distinct moody atmosphere whilst a black pop-up bar provides refreshments. A continuous run of pipe fittings provides clothes racks, iPad rails and bench seating.

In the ‘Rumble’ room, Studio C102 accentuated the circular space which sits directly under the Broadgate circle through the placement of the custom made boxing bags and theatrical lighting.

The ‘Reshape’ studio curves along the side of the circle and features Georgian wired mirrors with steel frames and 1Rebel bespoke benches which contain weights.

The spacious changing rooms echo the same industrial feel with the use of handmade tiles, Hollywood style mirrors, SMEG fridges with chilled towels and galvanised steel lockers.

The women’s changing rooms are softer with wallpaper and copper panelled lockers. Rain shower cubicles feature bespoke brass-framed Georgian wired glass doors.
