Young talent Simon Legald mixed craftsmanship and industry for Normann Copenhagen new vases, candleholders and trays. Pastel colours and well rounded shapes defines a Nordic down to hearth design for a perfect Danish tea set.
NIHAVN is a collection of porcelain vases inspired by the dusty shades of pastel seen on the houses in Nyhavn harbour, Copenhagen cosy and picturesque district. A distinctive silhouette mixes together a patchwork of well-rounded shapes.
”My design is often characterised by an interplay between tradition and craftsmanship. I really like working with archetypes. I have based the design on the idiom of three different techniques and combined them all to create a both recognisable and new expression” Comments Simon Legald.
FOLK is a compound set of candlesticks to be combined in many ways. The range consists of four different candlesticks and a tray with a simple, minimalist feel. The neither round nor squared design define the character of the collection.
Simon Legald explains: ”I wanted to create a little family of cohesive products. Each candlestick should have its own expression but share the same DNA. It was important for the different pieces to be able to function by themselves as well as together with the other candlesticks in the set”.
NABO is a tight and minimalist series of trays with a friendly and naive style thanks to a softly rounded design. The large tray has openings at one end, making it easy, for example, to brush away crumbs, and water runs off easily when you rinse it. The middle one is ideal for storing oils and spices, while the high edges of the smallest tray make it into the ideal serving tray for glasses and bottles or as a bowl.
“I got the idea for Nabo one day when I was sitting down, drawing different shapes” Comment Legald “I like the fusion of round and square, and so I began to think about what type of product that form would be suitable for. This led me quickly to the idea of a tray“.
