Milan 2015 – Beyond Object launches a minimalist desktop collection in metal and glass designed by London based studio Poetic Lab. The serie includes includes a tape dispenser, letter opener, pencil sharpener and a pen pot. “We try to reduce each object to its bare minimal and see what’s left, and from there we start to add some emotional touches” say at Poetic Lab.
RELATED STORY: Beyond Object was on show at DesignJunction during Milan Design Week 2015. DesignJunction hosted over 30 international designers like Tom Dixon who recently launched a copper and brass stationery for the “modern” table.
Funno is a pencil sharpener and a paper weight machined from a solid block of metal and hand polished with mirror finish in various colours. “The concept of funno is all about rhythm and movement, the fluid mirror surface is almost tempting you to place a pencil inside and twist it”.
Lino is a structured, almost graphical, letter knife that has been reduced into a sketch in the space. “We draw a simple outline of a knife, reducing the decorative parts and bring that shape into three-dimensional space, that was the starting point of Lino”.
Cantili is a tape dispenser with a pared-down, sculptural form. It consists of a pair of concave circles and a cantilever. Its simple and light design is stable enough to be used with a single hand. “The cantilever structure and mirror polished disks give the tape dispenser a visual lightness, yet the real weight maintains the required stability”.
Penpo pen-pot set is made with three tubes in different materials and sizes, which can be fixed together by a hidden magnets. “We wanted to define spaces within a space with tubes. It is a bit like playing with building blocks, you can construct your own small houses on your desktop”.
